PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a substantial variation in the bottom dead center position of a slide in a transient operation state directly after the start of a press machine without operating a stopper so as to be the cause of the generation in the impact of the press machine. SOLUTION: In the method for correcting the bottom dead center position in a press machine, regarding a driving mechanism reciprocating a slide to the upper and lower directions on a bolster, it is provided with a bottom dead center position correcting mechanism correcting the bottom dead center position of the slide based on a bottom dead center position set value. The maximum drop amount (-δ) of the bottom dead center position in a time reaching from the transient operation state directly after the start of the press machine to its regular operation state is obtained. Prior to the start of the press machine or simultaneously with the start, the bottom dead center position correcting mechanism is initialized in such a manner that the bottom dead center position set value offsets the maximum drop amount. After the start of the press, the initialization setting is released, and, the correction mechanism properly corrects the bottom dead center position in a regular operation state based on the dead center position standard set value.
