In a case of transmitting, by use of PADM system, a second information sequence, which has been differential phase modulated as preceding waves, and a first information sequence, which has been p/4 shift differential phase modulated as delayed waves, the locations of the information sequences are converted by interchanging, out of the signal points of the delayed waves mapped onto the complex plane comprising real and imaginary axes, signal points, which belong to one of a set consisting of the first and third quadrants, a set consisting of the second and fourth quadrants, a set consisting of the first and second quadrants, a set consisting of the first and fourth quadrants, a set consisting of the second and third quadrants and a set consisting of the third and fourth quadrants, therebetween.
