The method involves holding a rotating rotor (1) of a machine (15) in suspense by a magnetic bearing (3). Rotational speed (n) of the rotor and/or temperature (T1) of the rotor are determined. Resonance frequency (fr1) of the rotor is determined based on the rotational speed of the rotor and/or the temperature of the rotor. An output variable of a regulator (10) is limited by a filter (11) for regulating the magnetic bearing in a region of the determined resonance frequency of the rotor, where the filter is adapted to the determined resonance frequency. An independent claim is also included for a regulating device for regulating a magnetic bearing.
