<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a carbon fiber/ceramic mixture to exhibit an ideal function. <P>SOLUTION: What are provided are a ceramic slurry prepared by dispersing carbon fibers and ceramic particles under mixing in a liquid dispersion medium, wherein the carbon fibers have no damages on their surfaces and do not contain a surfactant; a carbon-fiber-containing porous body prepared by molding the slurry in a specified shape and firing the molding, wherein the lengths of the carbon fibers dispersed therein are 20 mm or shorter; and a composite material prepared by melting and impregnating an inorganic substance into a carbon-fiber-containing porous body, wherein the carbon-fiber-containing porous body is the prepared carbon-fiber-containing porous body. Further, the composite material is embodied by one wherein an inorganic material which becomes a carbide upon contact with the C particles previously mixed in the carbon fiber containing porous body and carbon formed by the carbonization of a phenolic resin when the carbon fiber molding is fired is melted and impregnated, and the carbide of the inorganic substance is contained integrally with the carbon-fiber-containing porous body, and the inorganic substance is Si. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
