<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display and an image display method in which gamma correction is accurately and easily performed as a user intends. <P>SOLUTION: The image display includes an image projection part, a fundamental property selection part 51, correction property selection parts 52 and 53, a gamma property calculation part 54, an operation part and a control part. The fundamental property selection part 51 selects a predetermined fundamental gamma property from a plurality of fundamental gamma properties having characteristics different from each other over an overall signal level range of a main image signal. The correction property selection parts 52, 53 select a predetermined correction gamma property from a plurality of correction gamma properties having characteristics different from each other over a part of the signal level range of the main image signal.
