A battery module comprises a plurality of battery cells, a detector circuit, a communication circuit and a printed circuit board. The detector circuit and communication circuit are mounted on the common printed circuit board. The detector circuit detects the voltage of each of the battery cells of the battery module for provision to the communication circuit. The communication circuit is connected to the communication circuit of another battery module or to a battery ECU. In this way, the communication circuit of the battery module is allowed to communicate with the communication circuit of the other battery module or with the battery ECU.
