Use of at least one organic compound (I) as a fuel additive to reduce the fuel consumption of diesel engines, is claimed, where (I) has a molecular weight of 59-1500, and at least one structural element nitrogen-oxygen-carbon (N-O-C), in which the two free valences on the nitrogen atom and the three free valences on the carbon atom are saturated by carbon atoms and/or hydrogen atoms, and the structural element N-O-C is not a part of a ring system.
