OIL PRODUCING MICROBES AND METHODS OF MODIFICATION THEREOF

Disclosed are compositions and methods related to oil producing microbes that can produce unsaturated fatty acids which can be purified and used. Also disclosed are methods to modify said fatty acid concentrations within total lipid compositions using fatty acid production antagonists which either inhibit or stimulate certain components of the classical fatty acid production pathway thought to exist within oil producing microbes.
