The method involves determining a variable of state, which indicates a force for movement of a closing element (2) in closing direction and determining temporal gradients of the variable of state as variable of state gradients. A temporal change of the variable of state gradients is determined and a variable of state threshold value is determined, if the change variable of state gradients exceeds a given gradient threshold value. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for recognizing trapping case of a closing device; and (2) a computer program product, which has a computer program.
