The mechanism (1) has a selector shaft (2) supported in a transmission case and rotatable around a selector shaft axis (7). A coupling lever (3) is driveably connected with the selector shaft and rotatable around the selector shaft axis in an uplifting rotation direction or downshifting rotation direction. Two resetting handles (6a, 6b) are supported on the selector shaft and rotatable around the selector shaft axis. A reset spring is designed as a reset tension spring or a reset compression spring. The reset spring is operatively connected with the resetting handles. The reset spring is designed as a coil spring.
