<p>The device enables the simultaneous braking without friction of an assembly of bands to be reeled on one drum, the braking force being transmitted by endless belts, with the application of the braking force being directly by the belts by gripping them against the bands, the method avoiding braking by action on the deflecting pulleys of the belts. The belts consist of two layers of different materials bonded together, the first in contact with the band being an elastomer with good mechanical props. and a high coeff. of friction, and the second being a thin metal layer. Prefd. materials are polyurethane and stainless steel moulded together. Pressure is applied to the back of the metal by an inflatable bag through a plate with low friction props. conferred e.g. by PTFE. The plate may be part of a cooling device for removing friction heat.</p> |
