N,N'-substituted pyridylformamidines and pyridylalkylformamidines of general formula I, and their salts and quaternary ammonium compounds. R1 and R2 = same or different H-, hal-, alkyl-, alkoxy-, -NO2 R3 = H- R4 aryl-, opt. substd. by lower alkoxy-, nitro-, trihalogenomethyl-, and/or hal-; unsubstd. bicyclic aryl, C4-7 cycloalkyl-, lower mono-or dialkylaminoalkyl-,pyridyl- or pyridylalkyl, which may be substituted by one or two halalkyl-, alkoxy-, nitro- and/or amino-; -OH.
