<p>The invention relates to a blocking system (3) accompanying a person to be secured, said system being arranged on an essentially vertical safety rail (1) or an essentially vertical safety cable (1) for preventing automatic downward movement, and being able to be connected to a harness worn by the person to be secured by means of a first brake actuating element (5). When a downwards force (8') is applied to the first brake actuating element (5), said brake actuating element is stopped on the safety rail (1) or on the safety cable (1), while the blocking system (3) can be moved along the safety rail (1) or the safety cable (1) when an essentially horizontal force (8) is applied to the first brake actuating element (5).
