<p>Radial reactor for prodn. of phthalic anhydride by catalytic oxidation process from naphthalene, o-xylene or their mixt. on a solid-bed catalyst is characterised in that finned U-shaped contact pipes are fitted in a contact zone having rectangular cross-section; the surface of the pipes being covered with a stationary V2O5-or TiO2- catalyst which is applied onto a catalyst carrier (e.g. silica gel). The pipes are arranged horizontally in the reactor, perpendicularly to the path of reactive gases flowing through the reactor. Claimed equipmt. is highly efficient, or relatively cheap contruction, occupies less space and weight less than prior art apparatus.</p> |
