PURPOSE: A steel cord for tires and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to improve the stability of a plating layer in order to form a stable adhesive layer by coating phosphate on the plating layer. CONSTITUTION: A steel cord for tires is composed of filaments. Each filament is immersed in 0.1 to 2% concentration of a phosphate coating solution for 1 to 5seconds and is coated. The diameter of the steel cord is between 0.10 and 5.5mm. The carbon content of the steel cord is between 0.67 and 1.5%, and the tensile strength of the steel cord is between 120 and 600kg/mm^2.
