A non-aqueous electrolyte for a secondary battery is provided to facilitate formation of a solid electrolyte interface layer, and to minimize the amount of lithium ions consumed during the initial charge of a battery. An electrolyte comprises an electrolyte salt and an electrolyte solvent, and further comprises a compound represented by the following formula 1. In formula 1, each of R1, R2, R3 and R4 is selected from H, F, a C1-C6 alkyl group, C3-C8 cyclic alkyl group, C2-C6 alkenyl group, phenyl, benzyl and halogenated derivatives thereof, and n is an integer of 0-2. The compound is ring-opened upon reduction to form a reduced compound with a resonance structure. |
