PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric vacuum cleaner equipped with a dust-dirt separating chamber wherein introduced dust and dirt do not wind around, and the noises generation and suction fall efficiency accompanying with the lapse of use are suppressed. SOLUTION: This electric vacuum cleaner 1 includes: a dust and dirt introduction pipe 38 which is communicated with the outside of the vacuum cleaner body 2; a dust and dirt separating chamber body section 66 which is formed into an approximately cylindrical shape or an approximately hollow truncated conical shape, and has approximately flat internal bottom surfaces 66a and 66c facing each other, and a vortex flow passing port 72 opened on the bottom surface 66a, and with which the dust and dirt introduction pipe 38 is connected while making it direct in the tangential direction of a side surface section 66b; a separating chamber exhaust pipe 67 which is connected with the vortex flow passing port 72; a net-like mesh filter 73 which closes the vortex flow passing port 72 and has an approximately flat filtering surface 73a; a dust and dirt discarding pipe 39 which is connected while making it direct in the tangential direction of the side surface section 66b; a dust collecting unit 34 which is connected with the dust and dirt discarding pipe 39 and catches dust and dirt; and an electric blower 7 which is communicated with the separating chamber exhaust pipe 67 and the dust collecting unit 34, and makes a negative pressure act on each of them.
