PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding door device for an elevator, which suppresses the interception of a detection beam by contaminants, stains, dust, or the like which can cause erroneous detection of an obstacle. SOLUTION: The sliding door system includes: a light emitting device, disposed at one of the top of a door stop of a slide door and a door stop neighboring portion of a sill which is located in proximity to the door stop end when the slide door is fully closed, for emitting light obliquely toward the other of the top of the door stop end and the door stop neighboring portion; a light receiving device, disposed at the other of the top of the door stop end and the door stop neighboring portion, for receiving the light emitted by the light emitting device and forming a detection beam between the light emitting device and the light receiving device for detecting the obstacle at a doorway; and a shield, disposed on the sill above the light emitting device or light receiving device disposed at the door stop neighboring portion, for shielding either a light emitting part of the light emitting device disposed in proximity to the door stop or a light incident part of the light receiving device disposed in proximity thereto from above on a horizontal projection plane with a path for the detection beam released.
