Provided is a process for industrially advantageously, easily, and efficiently producing a key intermediate for a benzo[b][1,4]diazepine-2,4-dione compound that is a therapeutic agent for arrhythmia. The process is for producing a compound represented by general formula (1) (wherein R1, R2, R3, and R4 are the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl), and is characterized by eliminating the protective group (R5) of a compound represented by general formula (2) (wherein R1, R2, R3, and R4 are the same as defined above, and R5 represents a protective group for the hydroxy group).
