PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a sense of incongruity and unnaturalness on appearance to enable additional record of a stable image by pre-REC photography. SOLUTION: An image capturing apparatus includes a function capable of starting to record by tracking back fixed time after a record starting operation, has a plurality of photographing modes each having image quality parameters different according to photographing scenes, and a photographing mode selection means capable of selecting an arbitrary photographing mode among the plurality of photographing modes. When the photographing mode is switched by the photographing mode selection means while the function capable of starting the record by tracking back the fixed time is used after the record starting operation is performed, a phenomenon, in which sharp change of image quality by change of the photographing mode is additionally recorded as a recorded image, can be prevented by making speed for shifting the photographing mode to a newly selected photographing mode slower than that while the function is not used.
