PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of easily obtaining an anisotropic magnetic field H<SB>ani</SB>of a sample in magnetic characteristic measurement of a ferromagnetic body. SOLUTION: A magnetic characteristic measuring instrument 1 includes a laser source 2 irradiating a magnetic body sample F with a pulse laser of a high repetition frequencyν<SB>L</SB>; an external magnetic field application means 4 for applying a magnetic field H<SB>ext</SB>to the sample F; a beam splitter 7; and a moving stage 11 provided with a reflecting plate 8. The instrument, using the moving stage 11, controls a delay time t<SB>int</SB>for superimposingly irradiating the sample F with a beam 1 and a beam 2 resulting from splitting a plurality of pulses to be continuously irradiated as a pulse laser beam by the beam splitter 7; synchronizes a magnetization precession of the sample F with the repetition frequencyν<SB>L</SB>of the laser; resonates to the pulse laser the magnetization precession to be induced when the sample F is irradiated with the laser beam; detects an MO signalΘof the sample F according to the external magnetic field H<SB>ext</SB>by a polarization detector 5; and calculates the anisotropic magnetic field H<SB>ani</SB>of the sample F by a control device 6.
