PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a front filter for display apparatus, which enhances an image contrast in the presence of external light and includes an image contrast-enhancing layer having high transmittance of image light. SOLUTION: The front filter for display apparatus includes the image contrast-enhancing layer and a tacky-adhesive layer at least. The image contrast-enhancing layer has dark color parts, which are disposed in parallel along the in-plane direction of a transparent base material and each of which is linear and has an substantially trapezoidal cross-sectional shape, and a light transmissive area between the adjacent dark color parts. The width of the dark color part is increased as it goes toward the viewer side, while that of the light transmissive area is reduced. A dark-color particle and a transparent resin are filled in a grooved recess of substantially trapezoidal cross-sectional shape of the dark color part. The surface of the light transmissive are is covered with a transparent protective layer comprising a transparent resin. The image contrast-enhancing layer satisfies the following inequalities: t<dmin<dmax<W and t<dmin<dmax<H (wherein t is the thickness of the transparent protective layer; dmin is the minimum particle size of the dark-color particle; dmax is the maximum particle size of the dark-color particle; W is the maximum width of the grooved recess; and H is the depth of the grooved recess).
