摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical characteristic measuring device and method, measuring accurately, inexpensively and simply magneto-optical characteristics of an anisotropic magnetic field of a ferromagnetic material or the like. SOLUTION: This magneto-optical characteristic measuring device 1, is a mode-locked laser for generating an optical pulse train having a highly repeated period synchronizing with a period of optical excitation precession of magnetization of a sample F by a laser light source 2, and irradiating the sample therewith. An external magnetic field application means 4 applies a prescribed external magnetic field to the sample by an electromagnet. A polarized light detector 5 detects reflected light acquired by reflection of the optical pulse train by the sample, and outputs a polarized component as a magneto-optical signal. A control device 6 controls the external magnetic field application means to acquire as a resonance condition, an external magnetic field and the magneto-optical signal when the optical excitation precession of magnetization of the sample is synchronized with the period of the optical pulse train, and calculates an effective internal magnetic field or an anisotropic magnetic field which is a magneto-optical characteristic of the sample and a damping factor based on an LLG equation, by using the period of the optical pulse train in the resonance condition, intensity of the external magnetic field and the magneto-optical signal.
