<p>Disclosed is firmware update technology operating through a broadcast network for which memory consumption and write time of the apparatus for which firmware is to be updated are small, and distributed update sizes are small. For this technology, a means is provided whereby, if the latest firmware version is taken to be N, then for j = 2 to N, the difference between firmware of version j - i and firmware of version i (j - 1 ? j difference) is extracted, and the differences are put together and distributed through a broadcast network; and a means is provided for which, in an apparatus to be updated that is provided with version i of firmware, of the distributed j - 1 ? j differences (2 = j = N), only the j < i differences are stored in the storage area, and the i ? N differences are generated from the stored j - 1 ? j differences (i = j = N), and on the basis of the contents of the i ? N differences, the firmware in flash memory is updated (see FIG. 1).</p> |
