CELL PRESERVATION METHOD

Disclosed is a cryopreservation method for cells, which is characterized by using a solution containing essential component including a sodium salt, a potassium salt, a saccharide, a cryoprotectant and a hydrogen carbonate salt and/or a carbonate salt and optionally containing a component selected from the group consisting of a protein, a magnesium salt and a calcium salt. By employing the cryopreservation method for cells, cells can keep a high survival rate after thawing. Also disclosed is a cryopreservation solution for use in the cryopreservation. When the cryopreservation method is employed, cells can keep a high survival rate even after thawing, and the cells can be preserved for a long period while maintaining the physiological functions of the cells. Further, the cryopreservation method does not require a cell washing step after freezing and thawing. Therefore, the cryopreservation method is greatly useful in basic studies on cells and applicative studies in a medical field.
