PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing the compounds of formula (I) effective for treatment of diabetes. SOLUTION: The method for producing the compounds of formula (I) comprises the catalytic asymmetric hydrogenation of a compound of formula (II) in the presence of a catalyst comprising ruthenium (or rhodium) and a chiral diphosphine ligand.
