DISPLAY CONTROLLER, MOIRE ELIMINATION METHOD, AND DATA STRUCTURE OF PIXEL SPLIT ARRAY PATTERN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate moire generated between a liquid crystal display panel and a cyclical structure by controlling a split pattern for compositing a side image. SOLUTION: A display controller 21 is disclosed which controls the liquid crystal display element of a liquid crystal display panel 160 so as to display an image on a display screen by spatial luminance modulation. The display controller includes an image compositing section 39 for compositing a side image by modulating the image data of a main image based on a nonlinear correlation, regarding luminance from the liquid crystal display element, between on-axis luminance parallel to the normal of the display screen and off-axis luminance and the image data of the side image, and an array pattern storage section 32 for storing a pixel split array pattern which is a two-dimensional increase/decrease pattern of the data value of the pixel and referred to by the image compositing section. The array pattern is configured in such a way that a high-low pattern of on-axis luminance displayed on the screen based on the image data modulated according to the increase/decrease pattern does not interfere with a light-dark pattern based on the cyclical structure of a liquid crystal display module 22.
