PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical observation system suitable for assisting an operator in performing smooth diagnosis, etc. in high-power photography. SOLUTION: The medical observation system includes: a means for dividing an image in a first scanning range into a plurality of segment images and analyzing the respective segment images; a means for computing positions of the analyzed segment images within the first scanning range; a means for analyzing feature points of an image in a second scanning range by enlarging part of the image in the first scanning range; a means for comparing the feature points with the result of analysis of the respective segment images and determining the segment image with the highest correlation value with the analyzed feature points; and a means for changing the second scanning range to a range including the segment region based on the information on the position of the determined segment image.
