PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic tire 2 satisfactory in traction performance and turning performance. SOLUTION: A tread 4 of the tire 2 includes a base 26 and a cap 24 positioned outside the base 26 in the radial direction. The base 26 is constituted of a plurality of layers 28, 30 laminated in the radial direction. The first layer 28 includes a number of short fibers oriented in the circumferential direction. The second layer 30 includes a number of short fibers oriented in the axial direction. Preferably, in the tire 2, the first layer 28 is formed of a rubber composition mixed with a number of short fibers. Preferably, in the tire 2, the second layer 30 is formed of a rubber composition mixed with a number of short fibers. Preferably, in the tire 2, the cap 24 is formed of a rubber composition which is same with the rubber composition of the first layer 28 and the rubber composition of the second layer 30.
