The method involves supporting a test lever (7) at a fixed point (17) in an environment of a lift system (1) by a support (10) for measurement of weights (11, 12). A load arm (9) of the test lever is connected to a drive cable (5) of the lift system, and force (13) is applied on a force arm (8) of the test lever, where the force arm of the test lever compensates weights over lever force of the test lever while measuring the weights. The weights are measured before starting the lift system. The drive cable is guided over a traction-sheave (4). An independent claim is also included for a test lever for determining state variables of a lift system.
