PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device and method for vehicle control that displays an image of a road surface region ahead of the vehicle in the foggy environment, such as at night or in dense fog, and controls a moving body without regardless of whether the road is paved or not. SOLUTION: The image display device captures an infrared image 2 of a specific range ahead of the vehicle with an infrared camera 10 mounted on the vehicle 1, measures a three-dimensional shape 3 of the specific range with a three-dimensional shape measuring device 20 mounted on the vehicle, detects a road surface region 4 where the vehicle travels smoothly from the three-dimensional shape with an arithmetic processor 30, forms a corrected infrared image 5 where the road surface region is highlighted on the infrared image 2, and displays the corrected infrared image 5 on the display device 40.
