1306460 Colouring polyolefins MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 9 Sept 1970 [11 Sept 1969] 43066/70 Heading C3P Pigmented olefin polymers are prepared by introducing a polymer of an olefin or arylsubstituted olefin in the molten state into a liquid dispersion of a pigment and removing the liquid when the pigment particles dispersed in the molten olefin polymer have reached a size below 1 micron. Preferably the liquid is one which wets the pigment, and the addition of the liquid dispersion is effected during granulation or spinning. Specified olefin polymers are polymers of ethylene, propylene, butene-1, pentene- 1, hexene-1, 4-methylpentene-1, octene-1 and styrene, and propylene/ethylene copolymers. Specified pigments are azo pigments, phthalocyanines, vat dyes, lakes, titanium dioxide, iron oxide and carbon black. Specified liquids are water, alcohols and ketones. In examples dispersions of pigments in (1 and 2) methanol and (3) ethanol are added to polypropylene and dispersions of pigments in (4) methanol and (5) ethanol are added to polyethylene. The products may be spun into fibres or extruded into films.
|
