PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce time and effort for channel operation of a user, and improve convenience by automatically performing channel selection according to many users' present viewing situation. SOLUTION: A television receiver 10 transmits channel information selected at present to a viewing information accumulation server 20. The viewing information accumulation server 20 creates ranking information for channels which are viewed and listened by a plurality of the television receivers using the channel ranking information sent from the plurality of the television receivers 10. The ranking information created by the viewing information accumulation server is transmitted from the viewing information accumulation server 20 to the television receiver 10 according to a request from the television receiver 10. The television receiver 10 performs processing which automatically selects a channel using the transmitted ranking information, for example, a channel whose ranking is the highest, i.e., a channel which is viewed by the most many television receivers.
