PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing hydroxyalkyltriethylenediamines simply and safely without using a reducing agent having a high risk of ignition. SOLUTION: A dihydroxyalkylpiperazine derivative represented by formula (3), (wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>indicate each independently a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, an ethyl group or a 3C-4C linear or branched alkyl group; and m and n indicate each independently an integer of 0-2 under the condition of 1≤m+n<4) and/or a similar dihydroxyalkylpiperazine derivative is subjected to intramolecular dehydrating condensation in the presence of an acid catalyst.
