PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner for a vehicle for achieving quick-startup of air conditioning without overshooting permitted power usage for air conditioning operation before boarding. SOLUTION: For air conditioning before boarding (pre-airconditioning), an air conditioner ECU 50 determines a variation of the number of revolutions for increasing or decreasing the number of revolutions of a compressor 2 in accordance with the difference between the permitted power usage and the power consumption of the compressor 2. The variation of the number of revolutions is determined to increase the number of revolutions of the compressor 2, the larger the difference between the permitted power usage and the power consumption of the compressor 2 is, and is determined to decrease the number of revolutions of the compressor 2, the smaller the difference is.
