PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for neutralizing an industrially important water-soluble polymer and a method for controlling the water-soluble polymer in a specific narrow pH range while retaining high productivity to correspond to a high level performance demand required in various fields. SOLUTION: In a method for producing the water-soluble polymer containing a neutralized and/or partially neutralized acid group from the water-soluble polymer having an acid group without neutralizing with an alkaline substance, a method for controlling the addition of a neutralizing agent includes: acquiring a pH value and the addition of the neutralizing agent during production; and calculating the addition of the neutralizing agent to adjust at predetermined pH from a neutralization curve of a polymer made in advance.
