<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide freshness-keeping material enabling simultaneous and efficient prevention from withering due to transpiration of moisture from fruit and vegetable, or flowering plant in the process of storage after harvest and distribution, and afterripening/aging due to ethylene or acetaldehyde discharged from themselves. <P>SOLUTION: The freshness-keeping material for fruit and vegetable, or flowering plant consists mainly of siliceous shale having 0.1-0.8 ml/g of the volume of whole fine holes, and a specific surface area of≥100 m<SP>2</SP>/g.
