PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an orally administered adsorbent made of activated carbon having an excellent selective adsorption property and adsorption capacity for a toxic substance. SOLUTION: The orally administered adsorbent includes activated carbon made of a phenol-based resin, having an average pore diameter of 1.8 nm or more, a volume of pores having a pore diameter of 7.5-15,000 nm of 0.25 mL/g or more, a BET specific surface area of 1,000-3,000 m<SP>2</SP>/g, an average particle diameter of 20-1,000μm, and a packing density of 0.4-0.6 g/mL.
