PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus with which photographing reflected with the intention of a photographer can be performed even if any abnormality occurs in communication with an external strobe device. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus comprises: a communication means for communicating on light emission timing information with an external strobe device (step S402); a determination means for determining whether or not the light emission timing information is normally communicated by the communication means (step S405); and a control means for controlling so as to communicate the light emission timing information with the external strobe device again (step S406) if the determination means determines that the light emission timing information is not normally communicated (step S405:No), and controlling so as to perform communication during a prescribed period of time from the start of photographing processing to the start of exposure (steps S405-S407) when communicating the light emission timing information with the external strobe device again.
