PURPOSE: A high speed adaptive equalizer and a control method thereof are provided to facilitate high speed operation and realize with a small surface. CONSTITUTION: A high speed adaptive equalizer and a control method thereof restore an output signal by using a clock data restoring unit(220). At this time, a slope is detected about a signal and the slope is expressed as an eye pattern. By comparing the detected slopes, a high frequency voltage gain of an equalizer filter unit(210) is controlled. At this time, a high frequency voltage gain control signal maintains a fixed level if a slope of a restored signal is the same as a slope of an output signal of the equalizing filter unit. A high voltage obtain control signal level increases if the output signal slopes is smaller than the restoring signal slope and a high frequency voltage obtain control signal reduces if in a reverse case.
