PURPOSE: A power waste reduction apparatus of a laser display system and a method thereof, capable of including a driving part for driving laser light source are provided to reduce power consumption by varying headroom voltage by analyzing the brightness of an image source in a frame unit. CONSTITUTION: Video data is received and stored by frame(S11). A luminance value about the stored current frame is measured(S13). A mode according to the luminance value is measured(S15). A driving unit supplies the headroom voltage according to the selected mode(S17). The next frame of the video data is determined(S19). The luminance value about the stored current frame is included.
