<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a remote controller capable of preventing malfunction in a user-friendly fashion and improving visibility and operability; a remote control method; a display device; and a display method. <P>SOLUTION: The remote controller includes: a detection portion for detecting position information; angular velocity information or acceleration information; a trigger switch portion for receiving an operation by a user; and a transmission portion. The display device includes a display mode control portion for controlling screen transition among a full screen display mode displaying an image on the whole screen of the display portion, a multiple content display mode displaying a plurality of thumbnail images about a content on the screen, and a panel display mode displaying a panel that displays information about the content on the screen. The transmission portion transmits a reference determination signal to the display device, when the trigger switch portion receives the operation by the user, in order that an image focused on the screen serves as a reference point for user operation.
