PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forklift usable without inconvenience also for those operations other than an operation for loading containers on a railroad car. SOLUTION: This forklift includes an external mast member tiltable by a hydraulic cylinder 7 for tilting, a carriage provided to the external mast member liftably by a hydraulic cylinder 6 for lifting, and a driving hydraulic unit 21 for operating the cylinders 6, 7. The forklift comprises a control unit for controlling the driving hydraulic unit 21 by an operation lever. The driving hydraulic unit 21 includes a hydraulic changeover valve 26 for lifting and a hydraulic changeover valve 27 for tilting which are installed in hydraulic pipes, respectively, and used to perform lifting and tiling operations by the cylinders 6, 7, respectively, and a solenoid changeover valve 49 installed in a pilot pipe 47 for tilting operation connected to the hydraulic changeover valve 27 for tilting. The control unit includes a pressure switch 51 installed in a pilot pipe 46U for upward operation connected to the hydraulic changeover valve 26 for lifting and a relay circuit for cutting off a pilot oil by operating the solenoid changeover valve 49 by a signal from the pressure switch 51.
