<p>Anti protozoal 1-methyl-5-nitroimidazolyl-(2)-alkylcarbamate prodn from 1-methyl 2-hydroxyalkyl-5-nitroimidazoles Cpds. (I) is prepd. as follows: R=H or alkyl; R2 = alkyl or phenyl; R3 = alkyl (C1-6), phenyl, benzyl or cycloalkyl (c1-6). A 1-methyl 2-hydroxyalkyl 5-nitroimidazole (II) must be reacted with an alkyl- or phenyl (thio)carbamate in the presence of an organic titanate Ti(OR3)4 or zirconate Zr(OR3)4 as a re-esterification catalyst to prepare (I) with activity against trichomoniasis as well as against enterohepatitis caused by Histomonas meleagridis in turkeys. The process is simple and gives a high yield.</p> |
