PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of generation of periodic patterns and worsening of a granularity caused when a dot image is recorded in an image recording apparatus which can control a driving timing for every recording element in each section by dividing a plurality of recording elements that constitute a recording head to a plurality of sections. SOLUTION: When an input image is the dot image with a periodicity and there is information on a dot period and a dot angle, the driving timing for every recording element is set as follows. That is, the number of recording elements in the section and the dot period in a recording medium conveyance direction of the input image are made to have a relationship of an integral multiple, and a boundary position of the section in the recording head is changed according to a recording position. Hence the granularity is prevented from being worsened when the dot image is recorded, and moires are reduced independently of the dot angle and a shape and an arrangement of a unit matrix of dots, so that recording with a high image quality is enabled.
