The method involves determining the exhaust gas mass flow in an exhaust gas line according to fresh air temperatures (T-1,T-2), exhaust gas temperature (T-3) and exhaust gas temperature of specific thermal capacity. A fresh air mass flow, measured before a compressor (9a,9b), is determined by an air mass sensor (15a,15b). An independent claim is also included for a controlling device for determining exhaust gas mass flow into exhaust pipe of combustion engine of motor vehicle.
