The water jet engine has a closed inlet channel (1), in which a water column (2) moves to a drive unit (3). A discharge channel (4) is provided with discharge nozzles (5), through which the water column is discharged as a water jet (6) with the drive unit. The drive unit consists of two closed chambers (7,8), where each chamber is divided into two working chambers (7.1,7.2,8.1,8.2) with a water- and air-tight elastic and folded membrane (9).
