The method involves controlling a selection actuator for selecting pre-determined switching lanes (R-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-). A switching actuator is controlled for changing pre-determined gears (R, 1-6) in the selected switching lanes. The selection actuator is moved from the switching lanes into a pre-determined position in a neutral selection lane (N), before deactivating a transmission system, so that the gears are engaged with the selection actuator after activation of the transmission system.
