<p>A stream combining apparatus is provided which comprises an input part (1) that receives first and second groups of access units derived from the respective ones of two streams generated by overlap conversion; a decoding part (2) that decodes the first group of access units to generate a first group of frames and that decodes the second group of access units to generate a second group of frames; and a combining part (3) that selectively mixes frames of the first and second groups of frames, with reference to an access unit that is used for decoding each frame, to generate mixed frames, then encodes the mixed frames to generate a third group of a predetermined number of access units, and then joins the two streams in such a manner that the third group of the predetermined number of access units is used as the joint of the two streams and that the access units, which are adjacent to each other at the boundary between the third group of the predetermined number of access units and each of the two streams, distribute information for use in decoding the same common frame.</p> |
