<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external-electrode lamp-lighting device with power consumption reduced and capable of controlling an output in accordance with contrast of an image, and to provide a backlight device equipped with the same. <P>SOLUTION: In the external electrode lamp having a pair of external electrodes arranged along a tube axis outside an arc tube, and the external electrode lamp-lighting device equipped with a lighting circuit for lighting the external electrode lamp, at least either of the external electrodes of the external electrode lamp is divided in the tube axis direction. In the lighting circuit, driving circuits each consisting of a power supply part varying an output voltage value and an inverter part varying an output duty ratio are individually and separately connected for every divided external electrode, an inverter part control circuit inputting a common signal of the inverter part of each driving circuit is provided to set an output operation period of the lighting circuit by the signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
